Installing home alarm without monitoring, pre wired home

I recently purchased a new home that was pre wired for a home alarm. I was wondering if this can be an easy DIY job. I see wires around the windows and doors on the first floor. I was thinking about buying a Honeywell Vista p20 alarm system and possibly doing this myself. Has anybody done this and how hard was it. I think attaching door/window contacts seem simple enough but where would one put the main unit(I'm thinking in the basement by electrical panel). Any advice would be appreciated. Are there any installers in the GTA area that will install this without monitoring? Thanks.

The alarm panel would have to go where ever the other end of the wires end up, usually beside the electrical panel.

We do lots of unmonitored installs for DSC systems, we don't do Honeywell.

Greg, can you pm a quote? Do the DSC alarms come in kits or do you have to purchase everything separately? I have 4 windows, 2 doors, 1 keypad and 1 motion sensor pre-wired on the first floor.

DSC alarms are sold as installed through dealers who will do all the programming for you. Programming it yourself is a good way to increase your anxiety.
