baseboards popping out

Hi all, there are alot of areas in my house where the baseboards are popping out (ie: there is a space between the baseboard and the wall). how should the builder fix this? nailing it back in or putting a paintable caulking to hide the gap?

if it's along a straight wall, just have the gap caulked. if it's along a curve, make sure the baseboard is secured and then re-caulk.

you can ask your builder to do it or you can. a tube of caulk is about $3-$5. it's quite easy with the right tools. i assume by now you have a good caulking gun...

i do, but i'd probably do a crappy job. besides, i think they fix these at year end along with nail pops. i was just wondering how they should be fixing it.

the nice thing about this job is that you're going to paint over it anyway, so it's hard to really screw it up, and it's good practice for when you do exterior caulking or bathroom caulking - those you don't want to mess up - it's much harder to clean up silicone and exterior caulks and your mistakes are much more visible.

Buy a tube of Alex Plus, run a small bead and go back over with your finger.

The problem I find with the caulking in the tube that requires a gun is that it dries up and I always end up tossing it out.
