HRV Issue?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out if I have an HRV issue. I've been in my home for about 6 years and the filters are never really dirty (except for a small dusting).

I had a closer look inside my HRV unit and I noticed that there are two "ducts" (forgive me if I use the wrong terminology). I would assume that one is for the air that comes inside the house while the other would be one for the air that comes out of the house.

One of these 'ducts' seems blocked. I took a picture of it. Is this normal?

Anyways, I may be making something out of nothing. It just seems odd that the HRV is never dirty...no bugs or anything.

It looks like your model closes the air intake pipe when not in use. Keeps out the cold air.

Thanks for the info good2know!

With that in mind, when I do use the HRV, shouldn't that 'intake pipe' be open?

As it stands, the black plastic piece that you see in the picture doesn't really budge at all. I guess I just don't understand why they installed the ducting for it if, in the end, it's going to be closed permanently.

The unit I have is the vanEE 60h in case that makes any difference.

The damper should open when the unit is running.

Outside you will have an HRV exhaust vent and an HRV intake vent. With the HRV turned ON is the intake sucking air ( use a paper towel to check ) and is the exhaust venting air out ??

The good news is that you have a VanEE unit. When ever I call this Canadian Quebec based company they always are able to answer my questions. Google them for their 800 number and give them a call. They will want the model number and serial number of your unit.

After checking the exhaust and intake vents, it looks like both are working. I did the paper towel test and I had one vent that was sucking and one that was pushing air out.

With that, I guess it is working after all. I just find it odd that it hasn't been dirty in 6 years. Go figure. Thanks for your help!
