Roof Shingles repair, does it need to re-put waterproof paper under new shingle?

Hi,

I have a question of repair 1 or 2 pieces shingles which was off due to wind.

Poly-wood is exposed now. I guess the waterproof paper was thrown away with shingles.

Does it need to reset a new pieces of waterproof shingles? Before set new shingles.

Thanks!

The shingles are likely installed with a row of underlay at the first row only. NHBuilders here dont put it on the entire roof.

Like good2know says - there likely was no underlayment there in the first place so no need to put some there now.

Our building code allows for no tar paper or ice-and-water-shield under the shingles. Only one roll wide of tar paper is used at the eaves. It's crazy, but it mostly works. Will be replacing our shingles with steel likely, in a few years.
