Shortening intake / exhaust vents
1 Attachment(s)
My furnace & hot water tank intake / exhaust vents are not in a convenient spot. Can I shorten them or have them moved? Shortening I might be able to do on my own, but what kind of contractor would I need to move them?

I don't recommend shortening them. You need to worry about creating a short circuit of exhaust vent to intake vent.
HVAC company to move them.

Have HVAC tech review install manuals to see what options you have.

I suspect u have a Lennox. They have a bunch of options with various allowable lengths.. The middle pipe is your air intake and it must stay at least 12" away from the water heater exhaust (the vent closest to us in the picture)

Thanks for the advice everyone. I decided to bite the bullet and get someone in to move them (an hvac company). They charged me time and materials, but because they could re-use most of the pipe, materials wasn't too bad.

They've now been re-routed to the side of the house where I think they should have been in the first place.
