What To Get Done In Your Home During Construction
Because I get asked this a lot, I've written a simple article to go over the basics of any sort of technology that you would/should get installed in your home during construction.

I'll be periodically writing articles on simular topics and you can get updated by Twitter whenever these come out. Follow Me On Twitter

Hi Greg,

Where was this list a year ago? :D I missed out on 2 items. If it ever happens, in my next home, I'll make sure all these items are installed. Thanks for the list.

I would add that in areas where phone lines are done with home-run CAT5, that a shortcut to getting "data jacks" everywhere (which the builder may want to charge a premium for, just because they sound cool) is to run "extra phone lines" which you can then either terminate yourself or hire someone to terminate in a patch panel.

Sorry for bringing this thread back, just noticed the link no longer works? Anyone might have his suggestions handy?

GregS 2013-09-25 10:48 PM

I'll be adding it again next month.

Do you happen to have the list handy and able to PM me it? Our design appointment is October 7th, and I'd really like to see your suggestions ahead of time.

I do not sorry. I'm actually out of the country at a trade show for all of this stuff. SO when the list goes up, it will be updated.

Any chance that list will be up soon? :)

Last post was fairly old but wondering same thing.... will the link will be restored or could the list could be posted here?

Failing that... anyone have any suggestions on what to run before you insulate and drywall?? I just finished framing a house and am doing mechanical now.

building a 'tech' nook in a walk-in closet to house some AV equipment and possibly security camera gear. I'll have some in ceiling speakers in various places, will wire for surround sound using wall plates with banana and RCA plugs.
