Front door/doorbell camera recommendations

Hi all, I have a 3-storied townhome, and it will be difficult to come down and check every time someone rings the bell (not to mention unsafe also). So I was looking for options for a front door mounted camera, or a camera which includes the doorbell, so I can see who is at the door. Can anyone give some recommendations, prices, etc? Thanks!

Maybe check out the dropcam. you can basicall see whoever is at your door from your smartphone whenever you hear the doorbell.

Thanks fg. Has anyone used the Optex iVision? Seems to have the best review out there..

Hi Roy,

My parents have the new iVision+ http://www.absoluteautomation.ca/opt...-p/opivpdh.htm -

Mom loves it so far, but I had to set it up for them.

We are actually installing these for clients:

Logenex Teleport.
Door station at your front door, controller in the basement connected to a wired internet connection.
Press the button at the front door and it will start an app on your iPhone/iPad and allow you to speak to and see the person at the front door, anywhere.

Greg, do you have a hardwired option (not an app), basically as a peep hole alternative?

You can put a monitor in to watch if needed.

Went with Ring Pro.

The good:
responsive, high quality
can manually toggle the traditional home door bell chime and leave the notifications to phone/tablet

the bad:
no local recording, only cloud based which comes with an annual fee

We've installed a number of Ring Pros. They would probably be the best solution for a retrofit situation.
However, you do need a Wifi network that provides suitable coverage to the outside front porch of your house.. this doesn't mean it will work for everyone.
One issue we did have with Ring Pro was low volume on the outdoor speaker, no one can hear you. Ring is apparently working on that.

We also have for evaluation Door Bird and Teleport.
Doorbird is probably the best software wise. Stores images on it's own. It will integrate with an existing NVR that support OnVIF. It's drawback is it's somewhat ugly.
It does have relays on it to control a door chime, electric strike, etc.. but you do need extra wiring at the door for this.

Teleport Elite is by far the best looking out of all the devices, but I haven't found the app side of things to be the most reliable yet.
It has relays for controlling other devices. Integrates with OnVIF NVRs, I even got it to do SIP with out phone system. All the relays are back at your head end so you do not have to run extra wiring to the door station, but your doorstation does require a network connection with cat5.

Really? I actually thought my Ring Pro speaker output is plenty loud - could hear the convo from across the street and from well inside my house! LOL. Wish I could adjust the volume.

I dislike that the builder of my home installed the original button perpendicular to the door- half the screen is blocked but good thing I still have usable images due to the wide angle lens.
