shower: tile floor or fiberglass tray

Hi all, i have a shower with a fiberglass or plastic tray on the floor. this shower is leaking and plumbers can't figure out the problem, but its most likely coming from under the plastic/fiberglass tray. So we are going to remove it along with the tiles on the walls and make sure all plumbing is ok. the plumber recommends using a fiberglass tray for the floor instead of tiles. he said if the tray is installed properly, there is less chance of leak and if there is one, you know the source must be from the drain. do most plumbers recommend fiberglass tray instead of tiles. I would have thought tiles are better and they use the tray cause its cheaper.

Not quite sure in terms of leaks, but fibreglass tray is wayyy easier to keep clean long-term compared to tiles.
