If you plan on mounting a TV on the wall or above the fireplace, there is no real point to putting a cable outlet behind your TV if you have a digital cable box or satellite receiver.

You will still need to run all the needed cabling between the cable box and the TV itself, such as HDMI or component.

If you are just going to watch standard definition analogue TV, then putting a cable outlet behind the TV is fine.
