It sounds like you've already made your decision and it's going to be one of those two brands.

If that's the case they're both pretty much the same.

I would get neither. Get a Canavac. The 399LS (basically what i got) has a 12 year warranty (lifetime on the body & filter) and a filter bag.

Why pay more for a weaker product?

Nope, just the Canavac.

Just kidding - i would hope most bags would filter, but i don't know for each mfg. I do know the Canavac bag seems to filter well and not clog up.

Just bought CanaVac from Vacmaster in Markham (172 Bullock Dr., #20)
Installation was quick and the unit works well. I'm really satisfied.

p.s. guys at Vacmaster are super helpful and friendly

EDIT: Unit comes with filter and bag/bagless canister. The heart of CVAC is the motor - Canavac uses Ametek motors. Read more on their website: http://www.canavac.com/large_central_vacuum.htm

GregS,

What size do you recommend for a 2050 SqFt house? I want it to suck everything but humans! LOL! Silliness aside, I want lots of power.

I have a couple of questions:

1. Do some machines make less noise or are they all the same?
2. The no bag option that Mark & Lynda have sounds really attractive. My builder is just installing the rough in. if I wanted to get that and have it exhaust outside does something have to be done differently by the builder during construction?

I can answer #2. Nothing extra is required by the builder.

I installed the unit in my garage myself and ran the exhaust to the outside through a hole in the drywall and the brick that I made. Breaking through the brick is a little more tricky since if you screw up it's not easily fixed. It's capped off on the outside brick with a cover that flaps open when the vac runs.

Thanks Mark & Lynda, so only the bagless type requires venting to the outside? That's the only reason it does?
