The newer central vac hoses are much lighter than the older ones my parents have. My roomate had a dyson and we still used the central vac 90% of the time. My vote is for the central vac.

I was thinking the same thing the other day! We have a full sized Dyson, a Roomba, a hand held duster-buster and one of those swiffer vacs. Still, I canít wait for the new Dyson (which I heard they are sold out of everywhere)

For those of you with Central vacs which one do you recommend? I had a kenmore in my last house and it did not do a very good job picking up the dog hair. I heard the Beams are good

If you are referring to the new hand held Dyson, yes they are sold out in most places but my hubby searched high and low and found one for me a the Future Shop in Gatineau. Worth the trip out there to get it!

Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone have any experience using, or opinions on, the Miele S2 Contour canister vacuum?? They sell it at Costco and Futureshop. The main cleaning tool is a combo hardfloor/carpet head that doesn't have any sort of beater bar built into it, ie. it only cleans using suction power. Supposedly this particular vacuum is best suited for very low pile carpet (berber) and hardwood, tile, etc.

I had two vacs before getting a central vac when we replaced carpets in main floor to hardwood.

I vote for central vac.

We have a canavac - pay a reasonable price for quality, not a high price for the "beam" name. Greg (who sells and installs them) has some recommendations somewhere on the forums as well.
