Default BBQ on grass?

Do you guys put anything on top of grass and underneath the BBQ? We just got sod and I've been using the BBQ a couple of times and can see yellow grass in the spot underneath the BBQ (scorched?)

This is just a temporary solution as we will eventually landscape the area.

Plywood, patio stone or just let it be and move the BBQ around to water the affected area?

I put my BBQ on four cheap interlock stones surrounded by river rock.

+1. That's what I did before I had a deck built as well.

And just for fun, a little anecdote... I eventually did the same, but before I did I used to have it on the grass. There were no fences up yet, so the back yard was a wind tunnel. The BBQ wasn't really levelled on the grass, so on a gusty day my one-day-old Weber tumbled forward and smashed face first on to my concrete steps. Poor thing bears the dents to this day. So yeah, stones are a good idea, even fire risks aside! Oh, I also managed to melt some vinyl siding, so keep it away from the house (obviously!) haha.

Well since it's story time....yeah, I was moving the BBQ around the lawn at first also but after awhile, it got annoying. I recall one time walking to the back of my yard because that's where I had wheeled it to after mowing the lawn. I was also leaving a trail of burnt, yellow grass so that's when I decided to make the BBQ area. It's sort of temporary as I hope to eventually put in a patio but that won't be for a very, very long time.

My BBQ is about 20" away from the house and the siding definetly gets warm but luckily hasn't melted. The manual says that the BBQ should be 10' away from the house but that would mean it would sit in the middle of the backyard and I would be back to square one.

what if you have interlocking or concrete patio? do you put your BBQ directly on that and get it stained with greece or do you put a mat under the BBQ and have that area of the patio discolored if you decide to move the BBQ to another location?
