Default Home Security

Has anyone been approached by Southern Ontario Security / Reliance Protection? We were offered a free alarm system with 2 conditions:

1) We sign up for 3 years of protection, and don't have to renew after expiry. The alarm would be ours even if we don't renew.

2) Have a small sign on the lawn (like the ADT signs).

I think it's pretty common to be offered a 'free' alarm system in the same way cell phone users are offered 'free' phones. 3 years actually sounds like a long time for this---maybe shop around a few places to find out whether you can find a better deal (less commitment).

The 'free' alarms are never free. You may be either paying on the high scale for the monitoring fees, or you will get just a few sensors when you should probably have more.

Do you have to keep the sign on your lawn for the entire three years also?

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I have seen people buying ADT (and/or other security companies) stickers off eBay or some websites and use them on their lawns/windows.

You are supposed to, but no one is gonig to come by and check. I was told verbally, so I would have to check the contract if it is removed.

is that worth 1150$ to you? To me, 3 doors, 2 windows and 1 motionsensor and pad is not enough and for the cost (which I assume include monitoring) isn't a bargain IMO.

We have not been approached by them. I would definitely want more than what is being offered though. Perhaps you could find out the cost of adding all of the additional items you would need (more windows, more motion and smoke alarms on all levels) and then compare the various companies. We are with Henderson now but will be doing Alarmbridge in our new home since Tamarack has a deal with them (they can install the alarm system while the house is still under construction).

free gas or groceries? Tell them to keep the 300 and give you 12 months free monitoring, 2yr commitment or more sensors/hardware. ;-)
