![]() We have just bought a new Cardel home in Orleans and are in the process of interior selections. It's been a very smooth operation so far and we hope it stays that way right through the closing date. ![]() We are new to this site but just wanted to say hi and we have enjoyed learning a lot about everyone's different experiences. It has been very intereresting. |

Feels good to see more Cardel buyers here. Long way to go to outnumber Mattamy buyers in this forum but who knows

Thanks for the welcome everyone. This seems like a very positive and cordial forum. That's great.
To answer your question Meth...we chose the Dover model. We really liked the very open floor plan and the 4th bedroom really suited a home office. Are you on the court Meth? They have a few foundations dug already. Is yours one of them or are you a later closing? Hey Falling Angel. One of our choices before deciding on the Cardel house was the Fullerton by Richcraft. We decided to go with Cardel because we have always like the stucco look. I'm sure we'll see you around the area for sure. 19 days...must be exciting! ![]() Has anyone chosen the Energy Star package? What do people think of it? Is it worth the extra money? |

Welcome to the site Orleans. Like yourself we just (or in the process of) bought the Marquis, and we are also interested in the Energy Star package. I would think it is worth the extra money, eventhough Cardel homes, so to speak, already meet Energy Star requirements, except for few technicalities that made the homes not to meet imposed requirements. I don't have an exact figure for the cost of the upgrade, but I was verbally told that should not be more than $2500. |

Hey skip,
We know for a fact that the Energy star upgrade is 4,800. That is for the HRV, upgraded insulation everywhere in the house, insulation to 6" above the floor in the basement and an independant inspection by an Energy Star qualified inspector. Our thinking was that it would be a more carefully built home due to the fact that an independant inspector would be looking over the home and checking for air leaks etc. Not sure if that makes a difference or not but it was a thought. |

When you buy the E.S package, you'll get a certificate that could be a good resell feature when time comes to sell your house. We just picked the insulation upgrade from E.S so they did not give us a certificate. However, I believe that's the most functional part of the upgrade that is not easy to do it when the house is built. HRV, energy efficient light features, etc. all can be done later. The price difference, however was substantial so we skipped everything else from the package except for the insulation. It cost something around $1800 + GST for us.
