Default Painting Basement Floor

Im looking to paint my basement concrete floor.

Wondering if its better to use concrete floor paint or epoxy paint.

Any tips from those who have done it?

I did it with a concrete floor paint and didn't prep it properly and had some peeling. It was pretty minor though.

With proper prep, either will be fine.

Epoxy will be more durable and pricey.

If the floor coating is a temporary thing, I'd consider not doing it at all.

After we went the the trouble of painting the floor, we decided 3 years later to lay ceramics in a portion of the basement. The contractor told us the coating had to be sanded off first or the tiles and scratch coat would not adhere to the floor properly.

That was a job with an industrial sander and palm sander in the tight areas that I'd not want to do again.

Thanks for the advice.

I think long term there maybe some carpeting if we do decide to finish the basement.

I appreciate the tile story....sanding anything isnt a fun activity.

You should be fine with carpeting.

Default Basement floor

On the show "Income Property" I saw them using a stick on laminate for a basement floor... seems so easy!
Does anyone have experience with this and is the product readily available in the GTA?

Painting your basement floor is a great thing to do. Among other things, it will keep the dust down and your socks clean.

I would suggest you use a latex concrete floor paint.

It used to be that all concrete floor paints were grey but today you can choose any colour you want.
