Default Main street Stouffville

Is it just me or does main street Stouffville seem kinda dead-ish or dying.

There seems to be a few closed up shops (savex) and others that might be on it's last legs.

It'll be sad to see this nice quaint shopping area die to the all powerful wal-mart.

Don't get me wrong, I love cheap things at walmart and the big boxes. But it would be nice to see the little shops flurish too.

I hope with all of us moving in soon that we'll be able to pump some much needed cash into our little town!

Wal-mart has been trying to put a large store close to downtown Burlington.

The town council and many concerned citizens have successfully fought off the attempts in order to save the excellent shopping atmosphere that is already there.

Good movie. Everyone should watch:

Support your Canadian owned stores such as Canadian Tire, Zellers and Rona.

Default Downtown

That Savex is kinda open..not really a "savex" as it is just a nick nack store. some family owns it but doesn't really keep it up. looks pretty trashy.

I used to work for the Town of stouffville parks and rec. for years they tried doing a face lift, but they couldn't get all the businesses on board to spruce up their store fronts. Because a lot of the businesses are family owned and fairly small, they didn't have the money to spend. I do know the BIA (Business Improvement Association) has always attempted to spruce it up by providing flowers and attempting to keep the main street clean and appealing.

Hopefully with all the new development the town/community will be able to take charge and shine up our nice little main st.

Colin.

Default Main Street

Noticed a couple of new restaurants during the Strawberry Festival and a new business or two. The town is also trying to get a theater going for stage plays. You're right, if we support Main Street it will survive.

We supported the local benjamin moore's store today. Bought their paint book with all paint chips in it.

We will need it when it comes time to paint.

I think this is the big secret..try and support the local stores as much as possible...local restaurants etc instead of just heading out to the big chain type places..

A theatre! Now that's fine arts. Something with a dance studio in it too.

I have noticed the hanging flower baskets, VERY nice. doesn't match the savex though. I can't believe that's still open!

Main street isn't bad as it is, but it's going to need some support to stay alive or grow/develop.

Common folks! Even the Fickle Pickle was a shooting location for the West Wing last last year. (Stouffville doubled as small town New Hampsire)

Fickle Pickle - great place for breakfast!!

I like the downtown area of main street stouffville, and would love to support the stores more but find so many close at 6pm every day. I'm not even home from work yet at that time, let alone time enough to stop at any of the stores. it's dissapointing.

Yep, I remember that. I wish I knew they were shooting I was a big West Wing fan. I think they shot the episode the year before though.
