Damn it. Anyone knows any builder in Ottawa used those drywall? My builder is Minto, anyone can confirm if Minto used them? Maybe I should ask Minto, but they will definitely say no, no matter what, I guess.

I'm sure every builder is investigating this and would act appropriately.

And to be honest, I have no idea why drywall would be imported from China.. It's heavy and cheap and the materials to make it are available absolutely everywhere.

Doesn't hurt to ask but I don't think so. From my pictures the drywall brand was ProRoc by CertainTeed company, a North American Company. So either US or Can made. You can probably just drive by your area and glance at the waste bins when they are doing drywall.

It will stop when the politicians stop coddling China and the business people have the cojones to keep jobs in Canada and North America and not worry about cheap labour and bottom line all the time.

I dont think its that simple. I think that in this high consumption lifestyle the majority of us have, if trade were to slow down between countries (in general) our standard of living would go down. If everyone can accept a simpler lifestyle (throw away the swiffer and use a damp cloth, no dollar stores, many products costing much more money, outrageously priced computers) then it could happen.

FYI - Here's what I received from Mattamy via email when I asked the question:

"...I believe all of our drywall is North American made but I have passed
this article along to those who should know about it, if anything comes
up I'll let you know asap."
