Default Security Systems - what to look for?

With almost two and a half weeks to go, I'm shopping around for alarm companies. I want to get a system installed asap. All the threads I found through the search were pretty outdated...
Any insight what we should be looking for? Any smaller companies we should pay attention to instead of just going with ADT (or something of the like...)?
We are prewired, but are looking for three keypads, motion sensors, door/window sensors and smoke detector wired in (and CO2 if possible). What else are we missing!
Help!

There are lot of options when it comes to alarm systems.

There are also a few options when it comes to paying for them.

Many of the companies will lease the systems to you, meaning you do not own it, they do for the duration of the contract. Ask about that in case you wish to change monitoring services later on.

Some companies also will raise the rates over the term of the contract. Make sure you ask about that.

Having the worst experience with Henderson Security right now. Cancelled back in Sept since we were moving, and they keep billing us. So now it's not them we call, it's Microtec, since apparently Henderson Security does not do the billing. Called Microtec, apparently not a new situation that HS is not forwarding them the cancellation information so customers are still getting charged. Not fun getting this sorted out. Also found they were very slow to call if an alarm tripped (10-15 minutes later on average, dog would sometimes set off the motion sensor).
Protectron has been much better in response time, usually receive a call in about a minute (after they try calling the home, they call us) after the motion is tripped. They have been back several times to recalibrate since the dog keeps setting it off somehow.
Check with your home insurance company, they may have a company they deal with and can get you a "deal" of sorts.

Previously had ADT which was ok but not great. Be careful when they tell you you can get 20% off your insurance - it's more like 3-5%

Any company that does not deal with DSC. Just make sure they have a good listing with the BBB or ask around.

I would higly recommend Colonnade security, Summit or CST (Canadian Security Team). I have worked closely with these companies and trust their reputation and products.

After working in the industry selling, DSC, Paradox, Honeywell, Ademco. The best product hands down is DSC.

Reliance protection came to our door soon after we moved in and offered us the following: Installation and hardware included... 3 mths free... 3 yr contract for $30/mth.

Quite a few people on our street went with them too.

I also have a flood sensor in the basement and a glass breakage sensor on the main floor. Since my main floor is not open concept, the glass breakage sensor covers the two windows that is being blocked by the kitchen wall from the motion sensor. There is also a low temperature sensor in the keypad.

if you like high tech solutions check out alarm.com and the systems they offer. Reliance Protectron offers these systems along with a few other providers. Very cool tech

We went with Home metal security. They were excellent. You have to pay upfront but your monthly bill sis quite a bit cheaper. They were very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. He also threw in a few extra items for no cost. Still not sure why though, I was ready to pay for them.
