Red face Dead flies in HRV

I opened up my HRV today for maintenance and saw lots of dead flies in it.

Are dead flies supposed to be in the HRV or was it not installed properly? Mine is a Lennox Healthy Climate HRV.

If you have recommendations for a lennox HVC repair person, that would be great!

Thanks.

Oh yeah. You'll get tons of nasty stuff coming in from outside. They gutbucket in and/or fly in the fresh air supply and get stuck at the unit. It's completely normal. Just clean it regularly.

I usually find big Hass spiders leaving in there as well, eating all the bugs.
I never open up the HRV without my shop vac to suck up the spiders.

Flies, bugs, and other dirt inside the unit is not uncommon but for all the time it takes - find the HRV Intake vent and make sure it has a screen in it.

Most intake vents with 3 or 4 open flaps have an integrated / built in screen but the ones with five flaps need to have a screen installed and on occasion they are missing.

The intake vents with 3 flaps have an integrated screen but the holes are quite large. These vents will stop the entry of vermin like mice but bugs can easily get in.

Thanks! I will take a look at the vent tomorrow. I was shocked to see so many dead flies there.

Spent a few hours to clean the unit :S.
