Default Reinforcement for Ceiling Fixture

I think their was a post on this awhile back but I can't find it now.

Where should you have reinforcement for a ceiling fixture?

I was thinking of the master bedroom because I'm thinking about installing a ceiling fan.

Do I need it reinforced over the dining room and over the main stairs as well?

Hi Brian,

We are having reinforced lighting done in our living room as we have a split-level open concept layout. We plan to install a huge light fixture with our high ceiling.

We were told by our consultant that we do not need reinforced lighting in areas such as our dining room because our regular sized light fixture will be supported well enough. You may need it for a ceiling fan in your master bedroom though due to its weight and movement...check with your consultant.
