Default Flush mount floor registers

Hi, we have a Richcraft Baldwin thatís under construction. Weíve decided to upgrade to Mirage Flooring in Papyrus colour. We looked at the prices of the flush mount registers with the flooring company (Barwood Flooring) and saw that each register is $65 each. That being said, I found someone selling Richelieu flush mount floor registers (4x10) for significantly cheaper at $10 each. Iím wondering if we can buy those and get them to stain and put those in? Would they even do that? Or am I stuck getting them done with Richcraft?

It may be difficult to have them done afterward. The flooring has to be cut and installed in a specific way for the flush mount floor registers to fit. This extra labour and supplies probably explains the higher cost. I doubt that the builder would do this if you are not buying the flush mount floor register with them.

In the grand scheme, $55 extra per register won't mean anything and you'll know they were done correctly and designed for your floor. Trying to save a few hundred $ might come back to bite you so take the risk if you want, but personally, it's a no-brainer for me.

Good luck!

Do you have an 'installed' price from this other company? Is the $10 grill stained to match the floor even?

Im not sure there is a means for comparison and decision yet.

Your builder or the flooring company would never agree to that. You wouldn't save anything after paying to finish them and install anyway.

The ones from Mirage will be produced using the same stain as the flooring- unlike the actual flooring those are usually finished by hand- hence the cost. They also require a much more precise installation than just cutting a hole for a regular grille. To do them afterwards is even more costly and you really need to know what your doing - there is zero room for error.

$65 each is actually quite reasonable for flush mount grilles installed

I would imagine that people who install these registers use a wood template and a router and then just clean up the corners with a chisel. The whole process would then take a couple minutes.

I have them and they are installed with a piece of trim around them that provides a sort of frame for the register. When you remove them you do not see raw edges from the floor boards.

$65 is cheap. We got a rough quote of around $100 each from our builder. I regret not doing it now.
