Default Mounting tv.

Hi Can i get some help...... I would like to mount my tv in my familyroom and i want to have the wires hidden. What do i need to do? I just purchased a new home that will be completed in July 2010. Should i have the builders instaull an electrical socket above the standard height along with the cable outlet. I plan to get shelves to put my cable box and dvd player on but I am not sure if I could get someone to come in after to complete this job. I want this area to look clean and neat with no wiring showing.

Please Help...

If you know where you want to put everything, have the builder run an electrical outlet directly behind where you want the TV to go. Also, have the builder add an "accessory box" (picture an empty electrical box) which is connected via plastic conduit to another "accessory box" near where you will have your cable box, dvd, stereo etc. That's where you should also have the cable jack installed. You can then run all the wires from the one box to the other behind the TV including cable, audio cables, and dvd cables. It will look much neater.

You can do it after the walls are built but its a real task to make it look decent.

Thank you everyone for your help. I have one more question... would it be wise to have someone come in after to do set this up for me or have the builders put in the electrical outlet. They are over charing for everything.

As i said i want a clean look but i also dont want to end up broke from the builders lol.

GregS thank you and i am going to send u an email.

We had a non direct conduit added so we could put the TV over the fireplace. The builder charged 350 I think and it included the electrical. Bit on the pricey side but its done and in the wall so I don't have to rip out drywall after the fact. If it is not going over a fireplace, it may be fairly easy to do a direct conduit after the fact. Greg would be the authority on that one. Its what he does. I am also planning a built in around the fireplace so all of the electronics and associated stuff will be completely hidden. good luck
