Default Flush Mounted Fireplace - What to do with it?

We have a flush mounted fireplace in our great room which is about 14" off the floor. We're not sure what do with it. I know I'd like a mantle and something that is timeless yet modern-ish.

We have a Tartan Magnolia if that matters .. I've attached a photo of the fireplace in the model home (our ceilings are actually a foot higher but there is still the bulkhead around that wall). This wall + fireplace is the first thing you see when you walk in the house, I really don't want to screw it up.

Anyone care to share inspiration photos or give advice? Thanks

if you query 'modern fireplace design' in google images, you will get pages and pages

in that model, I think something not too complex would be best

i'm not a mantle fan - they somewhat defeat the modernish desire and become a storage shelf that doesn't need to be in the middle of that wall

match tile with front entrance and/or kitchen ... you will also have a choice of tile borders if you do tile

nanners is in the same boat
