Default GST Rebate

Hi All,

Just bought a $330K townhouse and closed yesterday. My lawyer made us sign the GST Rebate over to the builder.

To get to the point, are people who have purchased a home (<450K) getting their GST Rebates???

TIA

In most cases (probably 100% in the GTA) the builder gets the new housing rebate. I've never seen a builder advertise a price that does not already include the rebate.

To avoid confusion: Standard GST New Housing Rebate, which is up to 36% of the GST paid. Not the 0.64% to 1% (of the pre-GST price) Transitional Rebate.

This is normal. The price you paid is net of gst, and the builder gets the rebate. What you don't want to happen is to get delayed into 2008 and still pay the same net price -then the builder is pocketing the savings from the lower gst rate. Call your lawyer - he'll explain it to you. You're not getting screwed.
