So we talked to the design centre rep again, who hasn't gotten a formal answer back from her construction manager.

But this time she noted that he mentioned it was a Warranty issue?

Does that make any sense???

It only makes sense if what they are referring to is that your own backsplash will not be covered by the warranty (duh). But they will probably try to make up some excuse about counters and cabinetry being affected by your 'aftermarket' backsplash.

Funny thing about that is we just bought an R-2000 home with Urbandale and they didn't install a hood fan. There's just a wired box hanging out of the wall for us to install one, and we didn't sign off on anything special, in fact we were surprised they didn't at least install a cheesy one that we'd end up ripping out.

But back to the backsplash, we deleted ours and we have granite counters, clearly your builder was misinformed/trying to rip you off.
