Default light fixture question

Many of the light fixtures that I like, they dont have in any stores to see. I am terrified to order a fixture and then to see it and not like it. They are ordered in and cant be returned. Has anyone bought light fixtures without seeing them. Were you happy?

Also, in my upper hallway, in the open stairwell area. I want to place a long pendant light. But I think I need to move the fixture over a foot or two or it will be too close to the railing. I have the popcorn ceiling.
Any ideas? How expensive would this be? I suppose I could put moulding around it once it's moved to cover the hole. Has anyone done this? Any pictures?

There are a bunch of lighting stores on Cartwright rd. near Yorkdale. You can try searching there for something you like.
