![]() Anyone happen to know a good (probably electrical) contractor who could retrofit a light? I don't think it's too complex (there's a ceiling light close by and I'm happy to have it on that circuit) but there's the climbing around in the loft, insulation/vapor barrier and cutting into the ceramic tiled ceiling that make it a bit more fiddly to pull off. If I can't find someone, I might consider a DIY but the ceramic bit puts me off - anyone used some kind of ceramic hole saw to bore a (fairy large) hole in tiling? R |

People scoffed at me as well when I told them that I paid for this upgrade but it is a must. My halogen bulb recently burned out and I replaced it with an LED bulb and it's literally night and day.
Check out Ring Electric.

That's weird. Lots of showers in new homes have lights in them. Shame some builders think it's an upgrade.

Ours did not come standard over the shower either. It was a must for us to add the switch and pot light there. I'm thinking of adding a couple over the tub as well at a later date.

rr if you do this, ensure the work includes properly vapour sealing around the pot light box, that it can be close to / covered by insulation; and that the insulation gets fluffed up where it has been compressed

Have them coming tomorrow. Pretty sure there's a void above the shower (lowered ceiling) and I know they're going to use a low-profile LED fixture so hoping there will be minimal vapour carrier/insulation disruption but I'll definitely be pulling it out and taking a look once I get home! Will report back in case anyone else has a dark shower. :-)

Follow-up for anyone who might need similar work - used Ring Electric and they did a great job - good value, clean and tidy work, thoughtful and talked through the work - very happy and would use them again.
Shower is WAY better with a light! Aside from the fact I now spot a couple of grout imperfections when I'm in there! :-) |
