Default PDI scheduled prior to hardwood installation

Is it normal to have my PDI scheduled before the hardwood is even installed?

The goal of the PDI is to inspect the home in it's completed state. If the floors are not installed then that could also have implications for the trim and baseboards and possibly walls that could be scratched or damaged when the floors are installed.

The PDI form will need to note that the floors are not installed and that they will need to be inspected when the are installed.

Typically hardwood floors need to be carefully inspected for any scratches, chips, dents, etc. Also go to Tarions Construction Performance Guidelines and look up Crowning and Cupping. These issues are easily missed but MUST be identified at the PDI or in your case, as soon as the floor is installed.

Thank you for the information, I am being told there will be a separate hardwood inspection as you mention.

You state I have to notice all those things during the PDI, will the 30 day tarion not be helpful for that if I miss something? Since I'd be looking to hire an inspector for my 30day.

The PDI is more for surface stuff. For example, if there is a big scratch on your drywall and you don't report it on your PDI but do report it on your 30 day. They could say, it probably happened when you were moving in and not fix it.
