A serious question: Is shopping at our local Walmart, Canadian Tire or Staples considered supporting local businesses?
Same situation with places like Tim Horton's or McDonald's.

They do hire local people, and they pay taxes here (hopefully). But it's safe to assume that most of the profits go to some entities outside Stouffville.

What's your opinion?

Unless they are franchises, the profits go back to the corporate head office. But as you said, they still employ local people. Often students, retired people, mom's who just want to work part-time or be close to their kids and of course many recent immigrants.

I went there this week, and I have to agree it is really very good! Hero Burger was my favourite before, but now Main St Burger took its place

^ I heard they just wanted out (maybe retirement?) not due to sales.

Apparently the new place Vi Pet or something has really good breakfast. Usually go to the pickle but will try out the new place soon.

I always get worried about a company's financial position when they participate in groupons. When I saw Frano's groupon I wondered if they really needed the increase in customer base at 25% of cost.

25% because the deal was 50% off, and then the money paid to groupon is split 50/50 with the restaurant.

So if you paid $20 for $40 voucher, Frano's only sees $10 of that $20, and $10 goes to the company advertising the special (groupon)
