Default Best Place for Cabling?

I'm looking to wire up my place and I was wondering where the best place is to pickup bulk Cat6 and Speaker Wire (I already have 1000' of RG6) as well as their respective wall outlets? I have looked at Sayal in Burlington and 1000' of Cat6 was arount $80 and 250' of Speaker Wire (don't remember the gauge) was around $130. For the Cat6, should I get Solid or Stranded cable...never really understood the difference betweem the two.

Those prices are reasonable. Not sure if you are aware or not, but copper has more than doubled in cost over the last 2 years.

You should only get solid core cabling. This is what you need to punch down into jacks.

No real reason to go with cat6 either.

If you need bits and pieces, odds and ends, let me know. I will actually install all of this stuff for you too

Why do you say there isn't a reason for Cat6? I know that Cat5e will handle Gigabit, but I thought Cat6 would give you better reliability?

Thanks for the offer, but I've got some friends that have offered to give me a hand...I figure 3 IT guys should be able to wire up a house

There's a Torbram Electronics just down the street from my work at Spadina and Front, so I think I might take a walk down there to see how much the stuff would cost there too.

If initially wired properly, cat5e is just fine.

cat6 is designed to reduce Near End Crosstalk (NEXT) by using a tighter twist and separating the pairs further along the run.

In order to properly complete it you will need cat6 rated hardware, such as keystone jacks, patch panels, patch cables, and if you really need them, RJ45 mod plugs.

I got into this because I was the IT guy and I didn't like seeing what the cabling guys were doing. Now I do both

Default Checkout monoprice.com

They've got a good selection of all kind of cables and ship to Canada. And they're really cheap for home theatre / hdmi / networking cables, etc.
