Default Landscape Designer / Architect

We are planning to build an inground pool in the spring, and would like to plan our landscaping at the same time. we plan on doing some extensive work and think it would be beneficial to work with a Landscape Designer / Architect. Does anyone have any recommendations?

thanks!

A Bloom does fabulous design work (on paper at least ! We met with Luc in the fall and were really impressed. We'll be hiring him this summer to do our driveway/walkway/entry.

Findlaycreek01: Did you end up choosing someone? How did it go? We're also in the market for a Landscape Designer / Architect. We're primarily shopping on reputation and quality first, not price. Someone that can come up with something that suits our modern style and is possibly unique.

Cheers,

We had our landscaping done by Mary Ann at Artistic Landscape Design (on Bank Place). She did a plan for the entire house (front/back/sideyard), and then we had them do about 60% of the installation and then we did a bit more ourselves (DIY) a year later. I would highly recommend them, I was super satisfied with every aspect of working with them. My landscaping is definitely one of the things I'm going to miss the most when we move next year.

I recommend getting some references once you narrow it down, and then drive around and check out the houses done by different companies. Make sure you get some older (>3 years) references and see how the work has held up, especially hardscaping. We narrowed it down to Cullen, Artistic and Yards Unlimited and after I drove around checking out reference properties the decision was a no-brainer to me.

(edit - just wanted to add that we don't have a pool, so it was just hard+softscaping)

John Szczepaniak has incredible experience as a landscape designer. He will work with you to plan everything out, from layouts to plants. He has excellent trades that he works with, with MANY years of relationships. Anything from massive multiple acre lots, to tiny pocket gardens in the city.

Don't be fooled by landscapers who call themselves designers either.

To beerbaron, Lex_Rx and hebdo27: What experience do you have with these companies? Thanks!

@ J&A: Thanks for the review of Mary Ann at Artistic Landscape Design.

I received a visit and quote from her as well as visited many of her past client's gardens and homes. All had very possitive comments. The gardens were beautiful and very functional.

However due to $$$ contraints I ended up doing nothing to my backyard.

Got to visit many of his gardens on tours. Many interior design students who I know also had the opportunity to have co-op placements with him that ended up extending into longer careers.
