Default Residential Energy Use Monitoring Project

Caneta Research Inc. is currently recruiting home owners to be part of a residential energy use monitoring project. This monitoring project is being sponsored by several electric companies in Canada and the US. We are looking for homes that are 2 to 3 years old, and that have air conditioners. The homes must be in or near Oakville, Milton, Mississauga, Brampton, Georgetown and Vaughan.

Caneta will provide an energy monitor and install it at the breaker panel in your home. We then use your internet to send packets of information to a secure Google PowerMeter account. The energy monitor will be a Brultech ECM-1240. We will set up the energy monitor to monitor your total household, air conditioner, and furnace fan energy use. Once the study is complete the equipment is yours to keep, and you can track your home energy use online. The equipment is worth roughly $500. Everything is provided to you for free, including installation.

The goal of the study is to assess the effect that residential air conditioners have on peak demand. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to take part in the study.

We are currently switching from using Google Power Meter to Check-It Solutions since Google Power Meter is set to expire in September, we will be paying 2 years of subscription for the homeowners.
