Default Shovelling the sidewalks???

Do we assume that because our roads have not yet been assumed by the town, that we do not have to follow town by-laws and shovel our sidewalks???

Just a common courtesy folks...

We have most people on my street not shoveling because they believe this is the case. Come on people, is it really that much more work to clear your portion?

I also clear my sidewalk, however, I'd like to say something for those who do not. It is much more difficult to shovel both the driveway and sidewalk after the snow has turned to ice. Many people may not have been living in their current homes before this happened, and it is VERY difficult to remove after ice has formed. This happened to us (before we moved into our new home)and when it warms up a little, I get out there and use a spade and some melting salts to break up the ice. I try to do this during the day (when my baby is inside sleeping) because by the time my husband gets home from work, the temperature has dropped again and the ice is even harder to remove. I still have not removed all the ice, but as parts melt, I try to get as much as I can, and now when it snows, I get out there to remove the snow ASAP before it rains and turns to ice again. We need to remember that not all people moved in before the snow and ice was on the ground, but they too should make an effort when they can.

I walk home from the GO train and I really appreciate all those that do keep their sidewalks shovelled. Makes the walk much easier.

Out of curiousity, how long does it take you?

If you stay on top of the snow, you can keep it pretty clear. We are down to the pavement in our driveway, but I also think I am somewhat anal about keeping it clear. Maybe it has to do with the fact that a few years ago I slipped on some ice and broke my elbow.
