Central Vac OR portable vac - time sensitive

We will have a mixture of tiles, hardwood and area rugs in our new home. Would appreciate your experience, pros and cons of a Central vac OR portable/cannister vac. Which do you prefer and why?

We are choosing upgrades which is why we are giving this thought now to determine if we need extra outlets for central vac throughout the house.

We just went through our upgrades recently and have mulitple style floors from rugs/carpets, tile and hardwood but we decided to go with central vac. I was raised in a house with central vac and prefer it. Its annoying dealing with the pipe and accessories but I prefer the way it cleans. I have a dyson for when I was in the condo and also like that but its still heavy and clunky and dents a lot of walls and furniture.

We also got a floor vacuum pan for our kitchen when we get the central vac from an external retailer

We have a Dyson and central vac... both have their advantages but if I had to choose one, I'd go with central vac... and get the toe kick in the kitchen... it's worth $500. Trust me

i second the central vac, but would not get the toe kicks. I got 3 when I had my cvac installed. I've had one removed and replaced with another regular outlet, I've used one maybe twice in 7 years, and I've never used the third one. imho, save your toe kick $ for another hose.

I guess 3 would be a lot... We just have the one in the kitchen and it totally comes in handy to sweep bits of dog biscuits and toddler breakfast into
It also makes it possible to use a Swiffer which is otherwise useless with German Shepherds lol (with the toe kick I can scoop fur at it and it vacuums off the Swiffer)

Unless you have a really, really big house, one or two inlets should be sufficient on each floor.

We have that setup with the toe kick in the kitchen... Only wish would be that we did this to the master bath upstairs too!

We install toe kicks in the kitchen and the master bathroom by default for the houses we do. Most people use them. Wish I had one in my kitchen.
