I don't think it matters as long as you have venting to outside. I'm in a townhouse and mine is installed on the wall between my neighbour and I, an inside wall.

Biggest thing that matters is clearances to combustible surfaces and construction.. Download the installation manual and take a look at the rating plate for accurate clearance requirements.
I see so many installed to close to combustibles... Also install the anti tip bracket
