Here is a list of things to look for during your PDI. It covers most of the important items. You don't have to look for all of those items (for example I didn't care about bulbs wattage, because I was replacing all bulbs with CFLs anyway, etc), but just pick things that you think are important to you once you move in - remember you will only have around 1-1.5 hours for your PDI, so don't focus on small details too much

KITCHEN check hot/cold water chips in porcelain sinks or scratches on counter tops? cabinets and appliances are level and properly anchored to the wall or secured to the countertops, that all doors and drawers open fully and without binding The space allotted for your appliances should be correct check all the electric outlets. Do they work? Do they fit? check dishwasher rough-in, water supply and drain all phone outlets? damage to floors or walls? all drains? all lights work? all taps all doors and door stops behind all doors? all locks? cracks in paint or drywall? correct-wattage bulbs fans? BATHROOMS check hot/cold water flush all toilets check all the electric outlets. Do they work? Do they fit? chips in porcelain sinks or scratches on counter tops? look for scratches and nicks in the sink as well as the shower enclosure and tub. check that the sink and tub stoppers hold water, and that the shower strainer is fastened securely damage to floors or walls? all drains? all lights work? all taps all doors and door stops behind all doors? all locks? fans? cracks in paint or drywall? all doors. Make sure all six sides are painted – front, back, top, bottom and both ends hinges should be free of paint correct-wattage bulbs. Check for bathroom accessories (towel bar, toilet paper holder, soap holder in bath tub or shower) LIVING/DINING ROOM all phone outlets? damage to floors or walls? all lights work? cracks in paint or drywall? stains on carpet? all doors. Make sure all six sides are painted – front, back, top, bottom and both ends hinges should be free of paint correct wattage bulbs walk all carpeted areas, checking for loose fits at the edges, ripples in the middle and squeaks in the subfloor BEDROOMS check all the electric outlets. Do they work? Do they fit? all phone outlets? damage to floors or walls? all lights work? all doors and door stops behind all doors? all locks? cracks in paint or drywall? stains on carpet? all doors. Make sure all six sides are painted – front, back, top, bottom and both ends hinges should be free of paint correct-wattage bulbs walk all carpeted areas, checking for loose fits at the edges, ripples in the middle and squeaks in the subfloor BASEMENT check the basement walls for cracks and water damage. there is no damage to the furnace and hot water heater inspect the capacity, shut-off mechanisms, and type of filtering check the location and number of cold air returns check the location of fuel lines and shut-off devices walls are protected against water penetration the floor slopes towards a drain check all the electric outlets. Do they work? Do they fit? damage to floors or walls? all lights work? all doors and door stops behind all doors? cracks in paint or drywall? locate the electrical panel and review the functions of each breaker/fuse check the ground fault and arc fault circuit interrupters (GFCI/AFCI) check rough-in electrical for dishwasher all doors. Make sure all six sides are painted – front, back, top, bottom and both ends hinges should be free of paint correct-wattage bulbs where are water shutoff valves? OUTSIDE Argon-E windows? check each one. Should be little plugs at the bottom of the windows if they have the gas in them. shingles- are they all there? Look from inside out quality of brickwork and siding? check the PVC siding for any gaps or cracks have window screens have been installed? driveway and landscaping check all the electric outlets. Do they work? Do they fit? eavestroughs and downspouts ensure that they are installed securely. check that weatherstripping seals exterior doors open and close the garage door to make sure that it does not stick. open garage door halfway. Does it stay there? It should. If it doesn’t, it needs to be fixed. check the foundation for cracks make sure that the vent holes are clear and fit securely check the electrical outlets check that the light bulbs are the correct wattage check the mailbox door hinges should be free of paint & no squeaks and no scratches check that locks / knobs are well installed and do not rattle when the door is closed take the metre readings for the utilities verify that the driveway has been sealed and no gas or oil stains or holes Last edited by TomToronto2; 2010-07-03 at 07:38 PM. |

It went well I guess....a few minor issues. We got our keys today and they STILL haven't finished varnishing our staircase. But, other than that, looks pretty good! Now comes all the hard work of putting a new house in working order!
