We just sold our house, and the conditions will be satisfied by Sept 16, 2013 so just one week to make sure it's sold!

The closing date on our old house is Oct 25, 2013 and the Ashton is ready May 2014 so I'm moving back in with my parents.

September and October are going to be nuts. We have to choose all our upgrades (Architectural, Pre-construction and Interior Colour Selectsion) in October and get ready to move!

Thanks! Do you happen to know if that includes the extra bedroom area or just the rec room area?

It appears so. In the model specific price book it says cost for finished bedroom is $0. So I'm leary when I see that. could just be that there was no price yet. That's the best I can do on that one.

Interesting! In any event, it seems pretty reasonable. Thanks for the info

Super reasonable. When we were building a single in FC, they were asking for significantly more than that to finish our basement.

Would also suggest checking exactly what 'finishing the basement' means. I am guessing the cheaper/underpad will be glued down directly onto the concrete. It may be worthwhile to find out what the additional cost would be to finish the basement floor with a good subfloor/waterproof membrane, etc.

Hi JohnySkills,

We just reserved our lot yesterday and chose the Ashton home It's beautiful!!

I was wondering how it was progressing so far...as what I read, you are taking possession in a few months from now.

I'm curious to hear about your experience...what upgrades you have chosen, at what cost, etc...

We did the following upgrades:
-basement elevation
-bathroom rough-in in basement
- bigger basement window
-hardwood throughout main floor
-cabinet height to 40inches
-we moved the kitchen window down the wall closer to patio doors and added an additional window on the opposite side to make like a sun room look. It lets in extra light, plus the kitchen window would have been next to the fence, this way it is more in the backyard and the extra window allows for more backyard views.
-pot lights just like model home
-white painted mantel surrounding fireplace
-extra garage insulation
-extra laundry room insulation
-we changed most windows into double casements
-hardwood top floor
-extra large mouldings throughout
-upgraded staircase with stainless rungs
-central vac toe kicks in mudroom, kitchen and ensuite bathroom
-lots of three way switches, especially one at top of stairs from basement
I think we have about 100+ change orders

We are extremely happy with the process. Everyone we have dealt with at the sales center, designer center and even the foreman have been great. The Framing walkthrough was really informative. The design center choices are great and allow for alot of different combinations. We went with a very clean look, light greys, maple hardwood, white kitchen, Very much like model home! We just fell in love with it and have looked at houses for last 2 years.

When do you have to start choosing finishes, if after May 1st you are more than welcome to check us out. Which phase are you in?

Phase 15. We're signing this coming Saturday and closing date is set for Nov. 15 2014

I'm glad to hear that you have a great experience so far.

In terms of color, we would like darker cabinet. More contemporain style.

We are looking at upgrades such as:
-pot light just like the model home
-hardwood floor in the stair case and the 2nd floor (depending on the price)
-Railing just like the model home
-Adding one window in the basement (move the one that is located at the rear end and move it on the side and add a 2nd window, just because of the way we want to finish the basement later on.
-change the breaker from 100 amps to200 amps
-lights under cabinet (like the model)

Cant remember what else is on our list
