Hardwood FLooring

Hi All

We are definatley going with hardwood flooring on the main floor where there carpet is supposed to be laid. But, I was wondering what Mattamy pricing is like for 3 1/4 3/4 Maple? Anyone know if they are reasonable?
I checked a few places last night on the web, and I was quoted $2,900 for 420sq'

How does that price sound?

Is anyone having the builder not install the carpet at all, and then having the hardwood installers come in directly after closing? Is there a charge by mattamy to not install standard carpet?
I am wondering if it would be worth it to just rip out the carpet ourself for when we finish the basement.....?

Since I want to have soooooo many upgrades done, I have been told by hubby to cut the costs somewhere ha ha ha

This is an expense that I've not looked into myself but if you go over to the Hawthorne Village website, there is someone there that post under the name of Tim and Sandra. You can link through to their personal blog and they have posted step by step pictures of this process. It might give you some insight into what's involved.

From everything I've heard on these websites, you're better off to wait on this expense as it is cheaper after the fact and that free's up what cash you have now for up-grades you can't do later.
