Default Hardwood flooring

Is anyone planning on putting in hardwood after you close? If so, perhaps we can all get together and get a discount.

We are supposed to close in August, but if we all buy around the same time maybe a discount will work. Perhaps those with a later closing could purchase ahead of time.

We are looking for Jatoba Cherry. We currently have American Cherry and the dog has destroyed it , however we have Jatoba at the cottage and it seems as hard as nails. We haven't decided if we want it prefinished or not yet. Let us know what your connections can do!

You also have to look at the maker of the of hardwood and if it has been poly-coated (several times). With animals you should not even consider a hardwood that hasn't been polyurethaned - and if it gets wet, it is history!!! We have Mirage Oak flooring in our current house. It is 3/4 " thick and they poly-coat their floors 10 times. We have 3 cats and 2 dogs and the floor has withstood hairballs, dogs and cats chasing each other and skidding across it, and a puppy that took a very long time to housebreak!!! We have had the flooring in our bedroom for 7 years and it still looks amazing. Scuff marks wipe right off too. Mirage does also carry a Brazilian cherry if that is the look that you want. We are getting Mirage Oak installed throughout the new house (through Mattamy though). Here is their website if you are interested www.mirageflooring.ca

We are looking for a wood that is "dark" and tough, ie. highly resistent to long dog nails. We are also looking for a 4" plank with a minimal grain. Any suggestions?

We went out and about to price hardwood and found a wonderful place - Canadian Flooring. They have a large showroom in the Keele & Steeles area, and a smaller satellite store in Aurora. They have a huge selection - many exotics that we hadn't really heard of, as well as tons of "domestics". Their prices were very good and installation prices even better.

Check out www.canfloor.com for anyone that is interested.

We went to a place in markham...I will confirm the name of it....it had a good selection and some exotics as well. I fell in love with jatoba- however a few things that were brought to my attention was jatoba color changes overtime based on light exposure...so if you installit and then place you furntiture in the room and after a while want to change your furniture around the flooring may be a different color under the furniture. As for dogs claws- I dont know a lot, but I know some hardwood floors are solid in that the color is through the entire width of the floor and other floors are stained and if scratched will be a different color under the scratch...I was going to make sure I got the full color throughout so it could take some wear and tear. Anwyays, I am sure someone else knows a bit more than me but hopefully it helped a bit!
