Default Closing without proper counters?

So, our builder has informed us that our quartz counters will not be in when we close our house. They said that they would put laminate counters in temporarily, not so sure what they're going to do about the undermount sinks

We are waiting for our lawyer to get back to us. Anyone know what our options are? Do we have to accept and close? or can we refuse the temporary counters and get compensated? Our closing date is next Thursday...

Thanks!

not sure what legal options you have but is it that big of a deal? do you want to delay your closing over counters? I would close and then get them installed. no biggie really.

I think if you read your contract you'll see that you can't delay closing for something minor. As long as they can get an occupancy permit you have to close.

This is right. If you decide not to close for something so minor you risk being sued by the builder.

There were threads in the past about "occupancy permits" and minimum required to close. Having the right countertops definitely falls outside the minimum.

Not only has everything that's already been said true, but you have to pick your battles. Closing is not the last time you will have to deal with the builder.

Thank you for all of your responses. Just wanted to know our options before hand as we have only been told verbally that our counters will not be in. We only have our PDI the day of our closing!!! Should be pretty hectic....but so excited to see our new home!!!
