Default Costs at design center vs doing it later

Is it worth getting solid counter tops with the builder or having the basic laminate counters with the builder and replacing them with solid counters later with someone else than the builder? I am talking about bathroom counter tops.

Also, is it worth having a 3 pieces bathroom in the basement with the builder or doing that later with someone else?

Any ideas of the current costs here in Ottawa, materials and labour?

Do it after-the-fact. You'll save money and have more selection. It will however require a bit of shuffling in the household with a company coming in to measure, remove counter tops, drawers, etc.

Definitely with the builders. Likely more expensive and messier after closing.

Gotta shop around and compare quotes for the exact work that needs to get done.

Good luck!

It really depends on your builders price, so itís important to get quotes elsewhere vs your builders upgrade price. Also ensure to include the costs of the standard material thatís being replaced in your builders price.

For me countertops were cheaper with the builder, but this isnít the case with all of them.

Thank you for the details provided. Builder choices seem expensive so far with the data I have collected.
