Default Door Inserts

Has anyone had the inserts in the front door and/or garage replaced either with iron or the frosty glass thingys?

Just curious how much something like that costs and who you used?

Default Inserts

We used Jeff at Academic Glass. Cost about $1200 for door and glass to the sides and above the door. They did a great job, we have used them before.

I've received quotes from 450 to 1,200 for the door inserts and two sides and top...the 450 guy was one of those shady guys who keeps littering my front hall with flyers.

We got window inserts from Sunlyte. They were $235 each i beleive.
We got the "moderna" half door inserts.

http://www.sunlyte.com/Catalog/Stain...ss_Windows.pdf

They also did our shutters and were were very happy with them and their service. Would recommend to anyone who's looking. If you asking for a quote it is much cheaper to pay cash. We saved almost 40%

Smile DOOR INSERTS by Jeff at Academic Glass

We moved into the new Mattamy sub-division near the hockey arena in Milton. Because the builder puts clear windows in the doors, we wanted to get some door inserts. My husband is an avid (and annoying) researcher and he looked into all of the options on line and we had a bunch of appointments with different companies. We learned a lot. Many of the on-line door insert companies are not selling from the same manufacturers as they have on their websites and in their trucks. they all seem to carry the same books but then they get cheaper and unwarrantied versions of the same windows from other manufacturers. Its very dishonest. We always want to know who is warrantying our windows because we had problems with seal failure in one of our inserts in Mississauga that we bought off a truck from a guy with a cell phone. So we learned about it and then ordered 2 full size wrought iron inserts from Jeff at Academic Glass, who does a lot of work in Milton and did my sister's house in Guelph. He was friendly, he helped us to pick a window that would match our style house, and he gave us 6 months to pay. The units went in on time, and we have loved them ever since. We have now called them back to do the hallway landing insert with niagara privacy glass. All round a very good experience with a very straightforward business. Now we are focusing on getting hard wood for the upstairs. The research begins again.

I used these guys : http://www.whatapane.ca/
Here are the reviews on these guys: http://homestars.com/companies/2772070-what-a-pane

Couldn't be happier. You know the difference in quality between the door to door guys or guys selling off the truck, versus what these guys sell. $900 for double door inserts, made in Woodbridge NOT China.

Careful with Jeff from academic glass. Seemed like a nice chap but too many negative experiences from what I've found on the internet for my liking. Here is an example:

I have to agree with the comments on Academic Glass. We used Jeff when we first moved into Alton Village. We had no real issues until he became very busy. He never called us back when we were going to do our transom. I recommended him to my cousin who also lives in AV and when she told him that we were related, he said nothing but negative things about my family. Long story short, I'm not sure if he confused us with someone else, however as a professional who is trying to grow business, negative slander about your customers is uncalled for. Needless to say, my cousin had a horrible experience, I was so ashamed to have even recommended him. On his first install which was 7 weeks after signing the contract, the glass was damaged and on the second attempt the work was shotty. He did not return calls and when my cousin finally got a hold of him he was very rude and clearly did not care about the after sale.
I have since moved and my transom was never done and now in my new home I would love that wrought iron/taffeta glass look again. One this is for sure, I won't be calling ACADEMIC!
