I did use lag bolts on my TV. Funny thing was I lost a battle against one of the 2" x 6" - I couldn't put the bolt flush to the drywall.

When I've had a tough time driving a long screw into wood I've added some white grease to the screw or use a bar of soap.

I haven't used the TV enough to know. It was just mounted yesterday but from the few minutes it was on tuned to an HD station, I didn't notice any reflections. Maybe I was just in awe over the colour and clarity of the picture that I didn't notice.
