Default Add insulation to interior garage wall?

We just found out that our builder does not insulate the wall between the garage and main living area of our home. However, the exterior wall of the garage will be insulated as will the entire garage ceiling (there is a bedroom on top the same size as the garage).

Since this is our first time building a home and we will be first time home owners, we don't know if this is acceptable and how much this will affect the warmth inside our house. Is it worth it to pay the $590 upgrade price and have this wall insulated to the same standard as other exterior walls (R25)?

Any advice would be appreciated.

There is some miscommunication here - all walls from garage bordering on living areas MUST be insulated, air sealed, and drywalled.

What model are you buying? Is it the silver birch ? So checked the floorplans...the common garage wall will be insulated. The only thing NOT insulated will be the 3 ft by the porch and 2 x 2 ft sections on each side of the garage door.

$100 a ft for r12 insulation does not seem right. Suggest you double check what they are saying.

If that $ is correct, do it after - a bag of insulation is 40$

Hi good2know,

It is the silver birth semi-detached. We were originally told the wall was insulated and then today were told otherwise at a design appointment. We were surprised, since we thought this would be something that was done...who should we contact to get the correct information?

See above (I added a bit to it) ... check at sales office - they must mean just the 5 feet. The rest is mandatory.

Hi, thanks for checking. We did get clarification from the sales centre. Here is what they told us (for all the people who seem interested in this post)

Basically, good2know is right. The walls between the garage and interior of the house are insulated with R12. The only parts of the garage for our model that are not insulated are walls that border outside. This encompasses only a small segment that protrudes past our doorway and the little walls that are on either side of our garage door. So obviously we are not paying $590 to insulate such a small area.

Hopefully this is helpful for anyone else who had/has this question. I think we learned that the design centre does not know all the details and to check with our sales representative whenever something seems a bit off.
