It might be better (who knows), but why would the builder not have a dedicated fan in the other 4 bathrooms if that's the case? Why did they tie them all into the HRV system when they built the house 3yrs ago? Obviously there is no code violation and if this is standard and acceptable practice (and it's much easier for me then drilling through the side of the house), why would I try to over engineer everything and do it differently. It's a small 2pc powder room in a basement - no different then when I bathe my son each night in one of the other bathrooms and I turn it on.

I think we're making a mountain out of a mole hill here.
