power outlet made a popping sound? - BuildingHomes.ca

Hi all, I was working in the kitchen one day and heard some kind of popping sound. it sounded like it came from a corner where there was a power outlet. The only thing near this outlet is my table and chairs. is it possible that a power outlet can make a popping sound? this outlet is not a GFI outlet.

anyone? update: I notice the outlet makes a small popping sound and a small spark when I plug my laptop into it. should I stop using this outlet?

It should not spark when you plug something into it. Remove the cover and see if the terminal screws are grounding out to the box.
