Thank you so much Phil. I'll send you email.

Hi Phil,

I thought you needed 6' clearance from the HRV intake from the furnace exhaust. I have at most 3 feet on our house and I walked around the neighbourhood and no one has near 6' clearance. Could you confirm?

I found this reference on the internet, but not sure how it accurate it is or if it applies to Ottawa, ON area.

Can you please post a photo that captures the relationship between the furnace air intake & exhaust, and the HRV intake and exhaust.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to take one today and won't be able to get back onsite until our pdi next week. The furnace exhaust was about 3 feet immediately to the left of the hrv intake. I've notified the builder that I don't think it looks right and I'll post a picture once I can.

This is location clearances taken from a venmar hrv manual:

Make sure this hood is at least 6 feet (1.8 m) away (or more, as per applicable building codes or standards) from any of the following:
• Dryer exhaust, high efficiency furnace vent, central vacuum vent
• Gas meter exhaust, gas barbecue-grill
• Any exhaust from a combustion source
• Garbage bin and any other source of contamination

Thank you for the info. Phil was very helpful and sorted this out. I never had a tankless HW system before. I didn't realize they use an air intake and it's ok for that air intake to be closer to the furnace exhaust, according to code.
