Default Turn off water while on vacation? Oui or Non

Quick question, with all the issues seen on this board with new construction plumbing is there any reason not to turn the water off to your entire house while on vacation or leaving for an extended period of time?

I have family that checks on the house every other day however a leaky feed line can quickly turn into a massive flood within no time.

I'm looking for any negative impacts, I usually turn off the washer valves, outdoor valves but thought why not just turn the whole house off from the brass shutoff at the city meter?

Thanks

I'd turn the main off as well. Just make sure you inform the family members in case they want to use the toilet or something.

turn it off at the main valve. Even if its a day, imagine how much damage that can do in a 24 hour period. This actually happened to a guy I used to work with, though they are gone a week. They came home to a giant flood from their upstairs washroom that made a massive mess.

If we go away for a weekend, I turn it off. My wife thinks I am nuts but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks all,

I wasn't sure if this was an off the wall idea or not, sounds like some do this often.

Cheers.
