Default Glass door as front door?

Our builder has installed a glass door (with frame) as the front door of our townhome. Is that safe? All the other townhomes have the same. What can be done to make the door safer?

Thanks,
Roy.

Are you worried about someone breaking in? If so, you can install security window film.

Why not just change the door?

A full glass door is no less safe than having a transom window next to a door or even a half glass door. If someone is going to break in, they would just do a firm kick to the lock area and it would bust open. I would reinforce that area first (you can get supporting brackets from HD or Lowes) before worrying about the glass door.

Thanks guys. Changing the door would certainly be an option. Could I get security window film from HD or Lowes? I will also look into the supporting brackets.

This company installed window frosting for me and they install security film as well. You could look into frosting your front door window for privacy at the same time.

Film or get glass expressions in. They do decorative inserts. They have wrought iron ones for special prices to if you contact them.

If you plan to reinforce the door, then some 3 to 4 inch screws through the hinge plates into the house framing would be good.

One screw per hinge will do it.
