Default Smooth concrete pad in garage

Has anyone in Ottawa asked about something other than a broom finish for the concrete in the garage? It seems that there are plenty of places (even those with harsh winters) where the builders do a smooth finish, and I think I'd really prefer it. Curious whether anyone has asked for it with one of our local tract builders?

No one huh? My salesperson said that no one had asked her about this before either. Odd. There was a lot of talk about it in the Garage Journal forums, but maybe it's not a thing here.

I wondered that, but it didn't seem to be the case from what the guys over at Garage Journal were saying. Even some folks from Minnesota were saying they've never heard of it. *shrug* oh well!

Hi Trepex,

We asked for a smooth finish in both our houses. Our first build was a Phoenix, they were absolutely fine doing it and charged something really low (like $50??) for the extra labour.
Our current home is an Urbandale. They were EXTREMELY reluctant to do it and said no the first few times. We pushed for it, and they finally agreed to do it if we signed a waiver releasing them from any damages due to a slippery floor! The charge was also a bit higher (closer to $300-ish).

It is much easier on the knees/back/elbows when working on a car, and easier for rolling stools etc too. We don't find it terribly slippery, just have to keep the floor clean & dry.

We also asked Urbandale about this, but they refused. I think they mumbled something about proper water run off.
